Resumen: La gestión de la Universidad de Makerere ha resuelto que la institución se volvió a abrir el 2 de enero, para permitir la realización del primer semestre. La decisión fue tomada en una reunión de la alta dirección de la puerta cerrada.

The management of Makerere University has resolved that the institution be reopened on January 2, to allow for the completion of the first semester.

The decision was reached this (Wednesday) morning in a closed door top management meeting.

Mr Barnabas Nawangwe, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration told Daily Monitor that management awaits the final decision from the council, the top governing body, so that the university can resume operations on the agreed date.

«As management, we agreed to open the university on January 2, so as to compensate the lost time and allow students to sit for their exams. We also agreed that graduation takes place in early March. Students will break off for a one-week holiday before the second semester starts,» he said.

This comes after lecturers voted to suspend their strike to allow the visiting committee appointed by President Museveni to perform their work.

President Museveni closed Makerere University six weeks ago after students went on strike demanding that lecturers who had earlier gone on strike demanding for nine months accrued arrears to resume teaching as they pursued their demands.
