On 24 August 2014 in the State of Palestine, a man inspects the damage to desks in a classroom at Amna Bent Wahab Basic School for Girls in Rafah City. The school was severely damaged during an Israeli airstrike at a nearby trade centre. By 24 August, more than 2,000 Palestinians had been killed in the fighting, and at least 9,875 others had been wounded. More than 473,900 people have been displaced internally. Over 200 schools have also been damaged in airstrikes, and at least 22 have been completely destroyed. UNICEF is supporting the rehabilitation of damaged classrooms as part of efforts to get children in Gaza back into school.
