China strengthens education exchanges with West Africa

China’s Minister of Education, Chen Baosheng, met with a Ghanaian delegation led by the country’s education minister, Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, on Aug 30.

Chen spoke highly of education cooperation between the two countries and suggested future cooperation on scholarly exchanges, Chinese language education and inter-school cooperation.

And, in view of the two countries’ rapid development, he added that China is ready to implement the consensus the leaders of the two countries reached, promote Sino-Ghanaian education exchanges and cooperation for mutual benefit, to which Opoku Agyemang expressed her gratitude for China’s support for Ghanaian education and talent development.

She also said that Ghana wants to strengthen communications with China and meet China half-way in increasing Sino-Ghanaian all-round education cooperation.

Ghana was the second country in Sub-Saharan Africa to establish diplomatic relations with China and it has ranked first in number of students and number of self-supporting students in China for the past three years, and Opoku Agyemang is the first education minister to pay an official visit to China.
