Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa yesterday asked educational stakeholders to help immediate renovation of Lindi Secondary School which was burnt on Sunday.
Nine classrooms, four teachers’ offices, furniture, 24 pit latrines, part of physics and chemistry labs, chairs in five out of nine classrooms were completely destroyed.According to the statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr Majaliwa asked educational stakeholders to participate in the fundraising event, which is scheduled for July 17, this year. The premier visited the school yesterday.
Mr Majaliwa assured students and teachers that the government is doing everything within its power to ensure the school is renovated and studies are resumed immediately. «The regional administration has already assessed the damage, we would like to see the report so that we can work together to renovate the school,» he said.
He asked teachers and other supporting staff to continue working as the government sets plans to renovate school. «I would like to ask teachers and other staff to bear with us during this period, the government is setting plans to renovate the school,» he said.
Presenting the accident report, the Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Godfrey Zambi, said early investigation shows that the accident was caused by electric fault in the teachers’ office. He said the accident has caused 682.78m/- loss.
The accident occurred a day before the school opened, said the RC, noting that the regional administration was doing everything in its capacity to restore the situation to enable students continue with studies as soon as possible. However, Mr Zambi said students are currently attending classes in the laboratory and dining hall.
