About 27,000 students applied for open study spots in the autumn joint application which ended on Wednesday, said the National Board of Education.

The number of applicants slightly decreased, 5 per cent less this year compared to last year’s.

There were 21,500 first-time applicants during this autumn’s application.

Most applicants sought professional higher education in the social, health and sports sectors, with more than 17,500 applications. The next most popular areas were social sciences, business management and administration, with more than 6,600 applications.

According to the National Board of Education, there were about 200 schools and programmes, and the number of open study spots was around 6,000, both numbers the same as in the previous autumn.

Universities reserved about half of all their spots for first-time applicants.
