Algeria: Higher Education – Yacoubou Emphasizes Special Partnership Between Algeria, Niger

Algiers — Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, African Integration and Nigeriens Abroad Ibrahim Yacoubou stressed Wednesday, in Algiers, the «special» partnership between his country and Algeria, Niger’s major source of university scholarships.

Yacoubou praised Algeria’s efforts to step up cooperation with his country, mainly in higher education, as up to 500 students from Niger are studying in Algerian universities, and the figure will rise in the future.»

Niger’s minister was speaking in front of reporters following discussions with Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Tahar Hadjar.

This cooperation will be boosted shortly, with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during the visit of Niger’s Prime Minister to Algeria next October.

The visit is expected to «extend the actions of the two countries in the field,» Yacoubou said.

Niger has asked Algeria to assist it in the creation of regional universities, he added.
