Jamaica: Gov’t Committed to Investing in Education

RESUMEN: Ministro de Educación, Juventud y de la Información, el senador Hon. Ruel Reid, dice que el Gobierno se ha comprometido a invertir en la educación como la fuerza impulsora en la consecución de la prosperidad económica y social en el país. «Estamos en el camino correcto y hay que seguir si queremos tener éxito en la construcción de una Jamaica brillante y más próspera», dijo. El senador Reid estaba hablando al (JTA)sobre la  entrega de premios de la Asociación de Maestros de Jamaica, donde fueron galardonados 14 educadores por su contribución de ley al sistema educativo. Los galardonados fueron presentados con premios, placas y certificados en la función celebrada durante la 52ª Conferencia Anual de la JTA la semana pasada en Montego Bay. Yvonne Blanco, Clive Brown y Juno Gayle, recibieron el Premio Anglin Jones; Sandra Hunter y Raymond Simmonds se presentaron con el W.B.C. (Ben) Premio Hawthorne; Tatricia Clarke, Shellyann Hamilton, Rhamona Bromfield, Glenroy Williams y Davis Millicent-Miller, recibieron la R. C. Premio Tavares mientras Beverly McKenzie, Vandolyn Foster, Georgia verde y Uriel McIndoe recibieron el Premio Edith James Dalton. El senador Reid felicitó a los premiados «que se han destacado, y que han ido más allá del llamado del deber en la búsqueda de mejorar la vida de los niños de nuestro país». «Me enorgullezco y aplaudo el enorme papel que todos ustedes hayan jugado en la construcción de la nación. A medida que la JTA celebra su logro, invito al resto de Jamaica para saludar a nuestros maestros sigan haciendo su contribución», dijo. «Esta entrega de premios es también una bonita manera de abordar el año académico 2016-2017.

Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Senator the Hon. Ruel Reid, says the Government is committed to investing in education as the driving force in attaining economic and social prosperity in the country.

“We are on the right track and we must continue if we are to be successful in building a brighter and more prosperous Jamaica,” he said.

Senator Reid was speaking at the Jamaica Teachers’ Association’s (JTA) award ceremony where 14 educators were honoured for sterling contribution to the education system.

The honourees were presented with awards named after past stalwarts of the education fraternity, plaques and certificates at the function held during the JTA’s 52nd Annual Conference last week in Montego Bay.

Yvonne White, Clive Brown and Juno Gayle, received the Anglin Jones Award; Sandra Hunter and Raymond Simmonds were presented with the W.B.C. (Ben) Hawthorne Award; Tatricia Clarke, Shellyann Hamilton, Rhamona Bromfield, Glenroy Williams and Millicent Davis-Miller, received the R.C. Tavares Award while Beverly McKenzie, Vandolyn Foster, Georgia Green and Uriel McIndoe received the Edith Dalton James Award.

Senator Reid congratulated the awardees “who have excelled, and who have gone beyond the call of duty in the quest to improve the lives of our nation’s children”.

“I take pride in applauding you on the tremendous role that you all have played in nation building. As the JTA celebrates your achievement, I invite the rest of Jamaica to salute our teachers on the contribution which they continue to make,” he said.
