Papua Nueva Guinea University of Technology improves on learning services

Resumen: La Universidad de Tecnología de Lae está ahora dando prioridad a su enfoque en mejorar el ambiente de aprendizaje de los estudiantes para cumplir con los estándares mundiales. Vicerrector Albert Schram dijo que Unitech ha estado produciendo más de 14.000 graduados en casi 51 años y la mayoría de ellos son de Papua Nueva Guinea, Salomón islas y Región del Pacífico, donde muchos se ha estado ocupando posiciones de liderazgo en negocios, servicio público y la sociedad.

Vice Chancellor Albert Schram said that Unitech has been producing over 14,000 graduates for almost 51 years now and most of them are Papua New Guineans, Solomon Islands and neighbouring Pacific Region where many has been occupying leading positions in business, public service and society.
During the 48th graduation ceremony, Dr Schram has outlines numerous achievement for the school as international involvement in the Pacific through Pacific Island Universities Research Network (PIURN);ten years business plan for financial stability and sustainability; training of ancillary staff especially security guards; student centred learning and providing opportunities for Faculty members to gain qualification overseas.
“We are the only university in PNG to commit to international accreditation by 2018, and have to implement full study load through common credit currency,” he said.
Dr Schram expresses gratitude for faculty members in participating enthusiastically in the international accreditation efforts by introducing in their teaching the post graduate certificate on student centred learning which paves way for students to be innovated leaders who have a clear vision of the destination, a plan on how to get there, and efficient and effective management of people.
“The quality of teaching is demonstrably going up, and we are convinced better quality will make our graduates highly employable,” Dr Schram said.
He mentioned conviction that Unitech experiences offered the graduates all the opportunities needed to develop skills and talents to the fullest so they must make it their responsibility to be outstanding and remarkably potential enough in order to be selected to join employment industries.
Dr Schram also urge graduands to muster the courage and self-confidence to go out there and find a job using the competencies equipped during four years of study or else establish a company and create employment for your community because you are a product of a well respected and famous technology university in PNG.
