Zanzibar — Some secondary school teachers in Zanzibar have come against the National Examination Council (Necta) which they believe is to blame for the high failure rate of Form Six finalists.
They accused Necta of harbouring » a secret agenda against Zanzibar». They noted that for long time now Necta has not been fair to schools from Zanzibar.
Head teacher at Al-Ihsan, Mr Abadallah Nassor, said they were shocked by the national results as they were operating under the assumption that their students are performing well.
«We as teachers know the strength and weakness of all our students. Given the standard of Form Six students we had this year, no one expected mass failure in Zanzibar,» he said.
He also blamed Necta for introducing changes in grading without involving Zanzibar noting that the changes could be one factor behind the dismal performance of finalists from Zanzibar.
