Over 800 Supporters Sign On For UNRISD: Please Add Your Name Today

Fuente UNRISD / 13 de Mayo de 2016

In two weeks, more than 800 academics, policy and decision makers, practitioners and advocates have signed on to a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, asking for his urgent political backing to efforts now under way to mobilize UN and other sources of funding for UNRISD.

We’d like to start by thanking all of you who have expressed support for UNRISD in one way or another over the last couple of weeks in response to our appeals. Your words and actions have been a great boost for everyone working for UNRISD. The responses demonstrate again the breadth, diversity and engagement of the UNRISD network, and your genuine and wide-ranging support is the bedrock on which more stable financial foundations can be built for the Institute. If you haven’t yet put your signature to the letter, please consider joining the 800+ friends of UNRISD who already have, and help us further strengthen the case for why UNRISD matters.

You can read the letter here, and join this group of supporters by signing the form below.

What’s this all about?

UNRISD does not receive funding from the regular budget of the United Nations. We depend on foundations, bilateral and multilateral donors and individuals for the support that enables us to carry out Research for Social Change. But UNRISD has been hit hard by shifting funding models over the past decade. Our reserves have been exhausted over the past few years and funding levels are now at crisis point.

What is being done?

UNRISD Director Paul Ladd has been working actively with partners and with senior leadership throughout the United Nations to secure the level of institutional support that will allow UNRISD to leverage additional project financing. He has also launched urgent appeals for funding from donors and individuals, and is working tirelessly to see that they receive serious attention.

What you can do

Please read the letter here, and show your support by adding your signature today.

About this initiative

On 27 April 2016, Gabriele Koehler sent the initial letter, with its first 200+ signatures, to the Secretary-General. UNRISD is grateful to her for initiating the letter, and to NetworkIDEAS and Recovery with a Human Face for promoting it to their networks.

Since then we have been collecting signatures of support via the UNRISD website. We will continue to do so until the end of May.
